It is held in order to raise awareness of the importance of prevention, reuse and recycling.
(From 16 to 24 November)

The European Week for Waste Reduction was launched in 2009 with support from the LIFE + program of the European Commission. The aim is to present the concept of waste prevention, reuse and recycling for a week, by coordinating awareness campaigns organized by a variety of actors. EWWR next edition will take place from 16 to 24 November 2013. The project also includes the annual European Award for Waste Reduction, involving and selected the most innovative activities, original and sensitizing organized during the week of the respective year.

The Week is coordinated at European level by the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and Sustainable Resource Management (ACR+), the international network of public authorities involved in promoting sustainable waste and resource management and quality of EWWR Technical Secretariat , in cooperation with several national and regional organizations.

The actions are structured around five main themes, ranging from design to product reuse:

  3. Consume better (promote responsible behavior in the purchase, give priority to products designed in a sustainable and eco-labeled, give priority to bulk purchases, encourage rent or loan)
  4. Prolong the life of the products (encourage reparation and donations, give a second life to objects, etc.)
