Campaign for the recycling of industrial oil

SIGAUS starts a new on-line campaign to promote the recycling of used industrial oil.

The Integrated Management System Used Oil (SIGAUS) has launched an online campaign to encourage recycling of industrial oil already used.

The purpose of this campaign is the promotion of environmental benefits gained by recycling the right way and regulated the oil used to avoid the strong impact of this product on the environment.

The campaign, under the name Grand Prix Sigaus guides the user through the entire cycle of oil management, providing knowledge through games of skill and general concepts. In addition, users can contribute to forest plantation Sigaus room and participate in the draw for the 4000 awards is at stake.

The draft fourth Sigaus forest is a plot of 32.550m located in the municipality of Coslada where a total of 1000 Aleppo pines, a species considered as having greater capacity to absorb CO2 when it reaches adulthood will be planted. This new natural area of Coslada will join those already existing in Alcobendas, Majadahonda and Las Rozas where already planted more than 3,000 copies that were labeled with the names of the winners of previous campaigns.

The communication campaign Sigaus Grand Prix consists of 6 tests, five mini games and a final test where scores are obtained by the knowledge that are shown on the oil management system. The game is compatible with mobile devices and tests may be repeated to keep improving scores and the ability to invite friends to join the game through social networks is offered. 1000 users with the best scores will name each of these trees.

SIGAUS ensures universal collection service through agreements and contracts with a wide network of managers of waste oils. SIGAUS has a complete network of authorized used oil, which includes more than 130 companies with which it has signed contracts and agreements to perform different operations with disposal of waste oils SIGAUS finance managers.

Universal collection service
In the area of the collection, this extensive network allows SIGAUS ensure the principle of universal service, adopted by the SIG since its inception, before their express inclusion in the legislation (Law 22/2011, of waste and contaminated soil ). That principle is that any producer of waste oil collection is guaranteed throughout the national territory without exception.
Free pickup
In addition, funding SIGAUS implies the obligation for managers to perform the collection of used oil free of charge to the producer (workshop or industry), provided that the waste meets a series of conditions that make possible their standard treatment.

Specifications of used oil
Although the exact parameters of these specifications vary with each picker manager, general conditions must meet the oil they used for the collection is free they are:

  • Water content below 8%.
  • Sediment content below 2%.
  • Point above a certain temperature inflammation (can range from 70 to 120 ° C).
  • Chlorine content lower than 2000 - 3000 ppm.
  • Content lower than 50 ppm PCB.

Industrial oil used as raw material
In accordance with the priority demanded for ecological, SIGAUS valorized all used oil recovered in 2013 (126.000 tonnes) and earmarked for regeneration processes 80,163 tons of waste, almost 65% set for the likely amount to be regenerated. The regeneration is considered as preferential treatment in the European and Spanish legislation, to reinstate the residue again in the life cycle of the product as industrial oil. Thanks to this process, during 2013 it was possible to produce 53 388 tons of reclaimed valid basis for the formulation of new industrial oils.

This process provides significant environmental benefits because, on the one hand, allows significant savings in consumption of raw materials, turning the oil into a useful substitute for oil; and on the other, is a significant reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases in relation to its use as a fuel is estimated that for every ton of oil regenerated the emission into the atmosphere of three tons of CO2 avoided, implying, for the steps taken in 2013 have prevented 240 488 tons of CO2.
Energy use
The remaining 46 634 tonnes were recovered intended for second viable treatment with which it is possible to take advantage of the waste energy recovery. With this process, once the waste is pre-treated to remove metals and other pollutants, it can be used as a fuel similar qualities to fuel oil, suitable for many types of industries such as cement, power plants, paper mills, yeseras, factories ceramic or asphalts, among others.

In terms of energy, with 1 liter of oil used as fuel oil processing they are obtained 10.84 kWh, so that in 2013 the amount of pretreated waste oil for energy recovery brought about a generation of energy equivalent to 506 GWh, sufficient quantity to supply the Spanish electricity consumption of 138,000 average homes for a year.
